BEACH THEME HOME DECORATING
Beach theme décor is a timeless decorating style. You don’t have to live near the beach to have a beach theme in your home so no matter where you live go right ahead and create that relaxing beach feel. When decorating in a beach theme it is easy to get carried away so be careful not to go overboard, try to keep it simple and classy looking with only a few accessories and colours in each room.
COLOUR SCHEME FOR A BEACH THEME
Choose natural colours and textures of the seashore. Think of the various blues of the ocean and sky, yellows of the sun, tan/beige/whites of the sand, greens of the seaweed and palm trees as well as pinks and oranges for the colour of beautiful sunsets, frangipani’s and seashells.
BEACH THEME HOME DECORATING IDEAS
Bathroom
Shell or driftwood mirror frame.
Porthole shaped mirror.
Wooden bath rack.
Cane/wicker laundry basket.
Sea sponges, pebbles, shells, starfish, model boats, carved wooden seabirds.
You could have a small glass shelf suspended on the wall for displaying your favourite seashells and starfish.
Glass bottle or vase filled with small shells, sea glass or sand.
Glass canister filled with shell/starfish shaped soaps or natural shells/starfish.
Beach themed Bathroom, Toilet & Laundry door plaques.
Pot a plant in a large seashell and sit on the window ledge or vanity top.
Kitchen and/or Living Room
Beach theme clock – maybe made from driftwood or in the shape of a wooden ship wheel.
Table runner, placemats and coasters made from coco twigs or bamboo.
Have a large glass vase or bowl filled with shells, starfish and other natural items that are found at the beach as a table centrepiece.
Spheres made from shells also make great centrepieces – group 3 different sizes together for the best affect.

Blue and white striped quilt cover or white quilt cover with blue and white striped cushions.

Bean Bags – could be coloured red, blue or white.
Glue seashells around the bottom of a calico lamp shade.

Use a large piece of coral to hang your jewellery off of and display on your dressing table.
Hang shadowboxes displaying seashells, starfish etc on wall.

Outside – Garden/Patio
Hang a hammock under your veranda or in your patio area.
Hang wind chimes made from shells, starfish or sand dollars.
Scatter pebbles around pot plant with the odd strategically placed shell and/or starfish.
Have a glass buoy wrapped in rope netting hanging from your patio or veranda beam.
You could also have a small old wooden boat used as a sandpit or purely for decoration. You could also just display the ores/paddles, maybe hung on the wall.

Patio poles made to resemble jetty poles.
Place tiki torches amongst your garden.
Have outdoor furniture made from wicker, bamboo, rattan, natural pine or painted wood with white or blue and white striped cushions.
Use an old anchor as a garden ornament.
Place a beach umbrella over table or deck chairs.
Hang up a beach sign – tin or wooden.
Hang a wooden ship wheel on the wall.
BEACH THEMED WEDDING DECORATION IDEAS
Table Centrepieces
Use a glass tray, vase or bowl with one or more candles in the centre surrounded by sand, shells, starfish and/or silk frangipani flowers.
Lighthouse used as a centrepiece.
Make candles out of large shells by filling with melted wax and placing a wick in the centre and letting the wax set.
Use Tea light glass lanterns as a centrepiece.
Table Decorations
Cut a slice in the top of shells and use them as place card holders/wedding favours.
Scatter sea glass, pebbles, sand, seashells, sand dollars, starfish or silk frangipani flowers on the tables, cake table, signing table, gift table etc.
For a classic look use all white seashells/starfish etc as decorations or you could spray paint them silver or gold.
You could use scallop shell shaped bowls for the bread or butter on the tables.
Napkin rings made from shells.
Attach your place cards to starfish using a ribbon.
Use scallop/clam shells as tea light holders.
Lay large green leaves under your table centrepiece
Other
Have a shell, starfish or frangipani flower attached to where the chair sash ties at the back of the chair.
If getting married on the beach you could create an aisle using driftwood, shells, starfish, pebbles etc.
Use small shells, sliced shells, sand-dollars, starfish to decorate your wedding invitations, thankyous, menus etc.
Use metal beach bucket looking pails as ice buckets.
Use a small old wooden row boat to fill with ice to put drinks in.
Hang seashell/starfish garlands from ceiling or bar.
If having in outside wedding put tiki torches around the perimeter.
Use shell shaped wine stoppers in the tops of glass bottle for water on tables.
GENERAL DECORATING TIPS
Group accessories in odd numbers.
Have tall and short accessories grouped together.
Lighter shades of wood work best when decorating in a beach theme.
